Powerpoint

Image
I admit that I use Google Apps every day and almost every minute. I am very familiar with Slides, Docs, Sheets, etc. Because of this, my attention to Window's Products has severely taken a backseat. So if you already know about this feature in Powerpoint.....you are one step ahead of me. Did you know that you can record yourself presenting a Powerpoint presentation , save it and share it with your students/teachers so they can listen to it on their own time? For example, a student is gone from school and they missed your presentation......or a colleague needs help understanding how to print out a report from Renaissance.....or a student needs information on how to cite a website when they are at home working on finishing their paper........

Formative Assessments

FLIPPITY: An Google Sheets Add-On With Flippity, you can turn a Google Sheet of information into an online quiz show, flashcards, matching games, Mad Libs, and more.  Flippity is FREE and works by changing the function of the Google Spreadsheet. In addition to being an add-on, Flippity is also a series of web apps. To share your creation with your students, you simply give them a link generated by Flippity in Google Classroom. To start, open up a blank spreadsheet in Google Drive. Go to Add-ons and install Flippity. You can now use Flippity with the spreadsheet as well as with any other spreadsheet you already have created. When you select Flippity from the drop-down menu, it will ask you what type of template you would like. Select the one you desire and modify the information. When you are done, make sure you select File - Publish to the Internet. Now you are ready to share it with the class. To watch a short instructional video about Flippity by Richard Byrne, click ...

VISUALLY ORGANIZE YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE BY TONY VINCENT….SHARED ON TWITTER Today on Twitter, I saw a post by Tony Vincent (@tonyvincent) about adding emoji’s to the names of your folders in Google Drive. As a visual person, this tip excited me and I quickly updated all of the main folders in my account. How fun is this! Below is the Instagram picture Tony Vincent shared. If you can not see the picture clearly, I am also going to provide a link to Tony Vincent’s Instagram page. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bb68hIRAIyY/?taken-by=learninginhand A great way to keep everything organized!

Formative/Summative Assessments

KAHOOT! I am sure I talked about this before but want to remind you all about the power of KAHOOT. What is it? Kahoot is a free game-based student response system. Students can play a game on Kahoot from almost every device. They do not need to sign in or create an account. All they need to do is to put in your individual game pin on https://kahoot.it/ . The best part is there are already games within the system you can use. To make your own takes only minutes to add multiple questions or play the new game called Jumble. Another idea is to have the students create their own game over the content and share it with their classmates as a way to prepare for a summative test. To learn more, go to: https://kahoot.com

Google Drive Update

Google is changing how you access photos and video in Google Drive. The navigation tab for Google Photos that is on the left-hand side will not longer be there after January 2018. Instead, you will be asked to create a Google Photos folder within your drive. For more information: https://goo.gl/6uueDE

Video

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? Video File Types: .mov, .mp4, webm, wmv, or wma Working with video across platforms can be very frustrating. This is especially true when students want to share a video they created on their smartphones or another device. Let’s begin by examining the uses for the different file types. .mov is used in Quicktime videos which works seamlessly with iMovie, iPads and MacBook Air .wmv or wma means the video is a Windows Media Video. It was developed by Microsoft and can be used with Microsoft products. .webm is somewhat new and is used to share video over different web browsers. Some platforms such as WeVideo love importing .webm video but others such as iMovie do not. .mp4 is an abbreviation of MPEG-4 file. It is a compressed file and is one that many people use. If you have a video in one format and need to convert it over to another, import it to your Google Drive and then use the Add-On called CloudConvert. Another way is to simply go to the...
