Must-Have Chrome Extensions For Teachers


There are hundreds of Chrome Extensions currently on the market with new ones being developed every week. Everyone has their favorites tips and tools to help make their day more efficient. Chrome Extensions are no exception. Everyone seems to have a favorite one or two.

Here are my favorite Chrome Extensions for Teachers. 

  1. goo.gl URL shortener (unofficial: This is my personal favorite URL shortener. It was one of the first Chrome Extensions I learned about, the first I started to use, and is still the one I use the most today. It is so easy to use. When you find an online site you want to share, all you have to do to shorten the URL is to click on the icon. Not only will it show you the shortened URL and give you the option to copy, it will also provide you with a QR code. Alternatives to this extension is Bitly.
  2. Share to Classroom: This extension is wonderful for those times when you want to push websites to your classroom students so they open up instantly on their computer. This helps make sure everyone is on the same page. Here is a short video on how this works: https://goo.gl/QAFPKe  But this not all this extension will allow you to do. Having the extension also allows you to post announcements, create assignments, and save web pages to post to classroom at a later date.
  3. Google Keep:  Speaking of saving web pages for future use, make sure you install the Google Keep extension. You can save images and sites, add your own notes, and access them all online.   4. Grammarly:  I admit my grammar is not the best. It never was. This is why I love the Grammarly extension. "Grammarly will make sure your messages, documents, and social media posts are clear, mistake-free, and impactful."
  5. Save to Google Drive: Quickly and easily save documents, images, audio and video right to your Google drive at the touch of a button.

Using AI to find resources

  Earlier this past week, I was asked by Mr. Morris to find resources for his class over Ancient Africa. The first place I started was not with a Google search. Instead, I turned to ChatGPT . My first query was pretty straightforward. I simply stated I wanted 6th grade resources for Ancient Africa. It did provide some links to a few websites but it was pretty underwhelming. I tried a few more queries before I decided to try the search with Perplexity AI . Not only did Perplexity show six different websites to use but it broke it down better than ChatGPT. Mathigon/Polypad

  What is it? Mathigon/Polypad is an interactive learning platform designed for mathematics. “ A completely new content format, combined with an innovative new curriculum, makes learning more personalized and fun than ever before: we call it the “Textbook of the Future”. Highly interactive content allows students to actively “explore and discover.” How much does it cost? It is free and students don’t have to sign in to use Polypad IF they don’t want to save their work. They can go to the site, explore, and visualize how math works. Want to know more? QuestionWell AI

  I first learned about QuestionWell from a blog post by Richard Byrne. You can locate that post here .  What is it? QuestionWell is an AI tool developed to help teachers create reading comprehension and guided questions over a topic, a large chunk of text or an online article. The questions can then be saved to a Word document or saved to one of the popular quiz apps such as Kahoot or Blooket.  Educational Uses? I found this AI tool to be incredibly easy and useful. The prompt I used was simply to ask it to generate questions about emerging technology for 9th grade students. I did not enter any text or even a link to an article found online. With only the bare minimum, it was still able to generate 6 essential questions and 19 general questions. I love the ability to filter the questions by learning objectives.
