Text Messages from Historical Characters


In this article by Richard Byrne, he explains a tech tool called Classtools Fake SMS Generator. This tool allows the student to create text messages as they would appear between two people. So imagine having students creating a conversation between two important historical characters during a certain time frame. With this tool, they could create what they would imagine their text messages would look like between each other as a way to show an understanding of the characters lives.

Now imagine the uses in other subject areas. Students can write fake messages between two fictional characters from a story or two science terms talking to each other. You can even have two people explaining a complex math term. There are many ways you can incorporate this tool into your curriculum.

EDUCAPLAY: Free Educational Games

      Educaplay is a website that allows you to create and find educational activities, manage groups, export your resources, and use them with your students across devices. In addition, students can challenge each other and see the results in real-time. For those of you who use Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams, the activities can be easily integrated.       To get started, sign up for a free account. Spend a few minutes searching for your time zone (honestly, this was the hardest part of using the site), and then do a search for a unit of study in the search bar above. There are thousands of different games already created by other people you can use. If you find one that looks interesting, give it a try. If you want to use it with your students, click on the Share button and then click on Google Classroom (or Microsoft Teams).
