YOUTUBE WITHOUT THE ADS

Mrs. Rufener was visiting with me a little bit about technology. She told me about how she had been hearing many people talk in her educational groups on TikTok about a way to show videos on Youtube without the ads or recommended videos showing on the side. I initially thought this was the trick that was shared earlier on Reddit where you insert a period but that it no longer is working (after it went viral on social media, Youtube took this option away). Yesterday, however, I came across another post with a different trick to do the same thing.

Here is a quick video from Mr. Vacca demonstrating the trick.
*This trick will work on every device but an iPad.

Here are the steps:
  1. Find the video on Youtube
  2. Copy the URL at the top
  3. In a new tab, paste in the URL
  4. CHANGE the url by adding in an underscore followed by the word popup between the words watch and the question mark - like this watch_popup?
  5. Hit enter and it will now play the video without any of the ads or recommended videos. Share this new link with students.

Using AI to find resources

  Earlier this past week, I was asked by Mr. Morris to find resources for his class over Ancient Africa. The first place I started was not with a Google search. Instead, I turned to ChatGPT . My first query was pretty straightforward. I simply stated I wanted 6th grade resources for Ancient Africa. It did provide some links to a few websites but it was pretty underwhelming. I tried a few more queries before I decided to try the search with Perplexity AI . Not only did Perplexity show six different websites to use but it broke it down better than ChatGPT. In fact, it recommended a new search query under Related that showed some activities I could use as well. Finally, I tried the Bard AI (I had to use my personal G account to access Bard). I found the results on Bard to be pretty much the same as on ChatGPT. Just goes to show why I like Perplexity AI so much! Mizou: An AI Experience made for students

  Mizou.com is a chatbot that was created for 1 to 1 student interactions in a safe environment. There is something from elementary to senior students to explore. With Mizou, teachers can customize and create an AI chatbot based upon their learning materials and rubrics. The chatbot can then be shared with students in a secure fashion (students do not need to login or sign up). Students can then interact with the chatbot using text, images, and audio. Students and teachers will receive automatic feedback identifying where students relate in context with the material.  If you don’t have a lot of time, try using one of the chatbots already created by another educator. You can search by grade level and subject. You can give them a try yourself before you share them with students.
