GOOGLE CHANGES

Google is continuing with their updates so I thought I would pass on a few for all to be aware of.

Gmail:
  • Searching for an email will be easier with advanced drop-down menus.
Google Classroom:
  • Soon, Admin will have the option to decide if students can unenroll themselves from Google Classroom.
Google Drive:
  • A new “card” will make it easier to access your Google Drive files from a new tab in Chrome.
Google Docs:
  • You can now add an image watermark to appear behind the text on Google Docs that will appear on each page.
  • Comment size in Google Docs has been increased to make it easier to use.
Google Forms:
Google Sites:
Google Slides:
  • The button for Present at the top right-hand corner will now say Slideshow

Mathigon/Polypad

  What is it? Mathigon/Polypad is an interactive learning platform designed for mathematics. “ A completely new content format, combined with an innovative new curriculum, makes learning more personalized and fun than ever before: we call it the “Textbook of the Future”. Highly interactive content allows students to actively “explore and discover.” How much does it cost? It is free and students don’t have to sign in to use Polypad IF they don’t want to save their work. They can go to the site, explore, and visualize how math works. Want to know more? Alice Keehler has a blog post in which she talks about how she uses Polypad to help her students visualize fractions including a video of her elementary age son using the program. Autoclassmate.io: An AI designed for teachers.

  I heard about Autoclassmate.io from a Facebook group and was intrigued. It is a website in which teachers can choose to use one of three different AI tools plus another one that helps you refine a ChatGPT prompt for instructional uses which will be coming soon.  The three different AI tools are an AI Would You Rather question generator , Activation and Engagement Activity generator, and a Lesson Plan and Activity Forecast tool.  I tried all three and my favorite was the Would You Rather question generator. Although I liked the idea of the Activation and Engagement Activity generator, my prompt led it to suggest three activities that all required access to materials and equipment our school does not have access to.
