MAGIC EXERCISE BOOK

One of the professional groups I follow on Facebook is called Teachers Using Google Suite for Education , many people have posted about a new add-on called Magic Exercise Book. This had me intrigued so I decided to check it out. What is Magic Exercise Book? - It is an add-on that was made specifically for Google Classroom to add pages to an existing Doc shared to the students as an assignment. Why would I Need It? - If you are a teacher that likes to present students with a workbook, this may be a better solution than having to constantly add assignments. You can create one single assignment in Google Classroom and then use this add-on to add “pages” whenever you need. Does it only work with Docs? - nope, you can use it to add slides to an existing Google Slide presentation as well. Click here for the add-on. This add-on is relatively new as there are not a lot of reviews or tutorial videos available. But if you want to give it a try, go here to download the add-on . The people w...

Speakd - Google Doc add-on that reads the document for you.

One of the lessons I learned from my high school days was a trick in proofreading a paper before submitting it. This trick was to have someone else read it to you as it was sometimes easier to hear the mistakes and corrections that needed to be made. But what do you do when there is no one around?....you use the add-on Speakd! Speakd is a free Google Doc add-on created to read your documents aloud to you. The voice is in a very robotic tone which is not the best but it is very easy to use. All you have to do is simply press play. This add-on can be used for students who struggle with reading and comprehension as well. Once the document is uploaded to Google Drive, it can be converted into a Google Doc . Once it is in a Google Doc, this add-on can be deployed. BTW: there are many different accessibility features available in Google and Chrome. One of those features is called Google Docs Screen Reader which does exactly as it sounds. The only difference is this feature will read ever...

Formative Assessments

FLIPPITY: An Google Sheets Add-On With Flippity, you can turn a Google Sheet of information into an online quiz show, flashcards, matching games, Mad Libs, and more.  Flippity is FREE and works by changing the function of the Google Spreadsheet. In addition to being an add-on, Flippity is also a series of web apps. To share your creation with your students, you simply give them a link generated by Flippity in Google Classroom. To start, open up a blank spreadsheet in Google Drive. Go to Add-ons and install Flippity. You can now use Flippity with the spreadsheet as well as with any other spreadsheet you already have created. When you select Flippity from the drop-down menu, it will ask you what type of template you would like. Select the one you desire and modify the information. When you are done, make sure you select File - Publish to the Internet. Now you are ready to share it with the class. To watch a short instructional video about Flippity by Richard Byrne, click ...

Google Doc Add-on

SIDE STUDY FOR TEACHERS:  A new Add-on for Google Docs This Add-On lets a teacher easily create custom assignments with automatic grading and embedded videos and reports. How it works is like this. The teacher uses the teacher side of the add-on to create a customized assignment as part of a Google Doc or Sheet. The assignment can contain instructions, helpful tips, and resources. Once completed, the assignment is shared with the student through Google Classroom. The student uses the student version of the add-on to complete the assignment. Sounds pretty simple right? So why is it so cool? Because this add-on lets you remake a boring Google Doc assignment into an interactive assignment complete with video, small quizzes, response areas, and more. Chrome Extensions

YOUR OWN PERSONAL EMOJI As teachers, we do so much online communication with students, wouldn’t it be nice to have an emoji to represent ourselves? First, create a unique avatar that represents you. Then, using Bitmoji, add stickers to represent emotions. Bitmoji can be added as a Chrome Extension making it easy to insert whenever you need it. When you send email through GMail and want to include your bitmoji, simply click on the icon. When you are using a G Suite item such as Google Docs, simply click on the Chrome extension and select which one you want to use. You can resize your bitmoji to fit and can move it around. Have fun and try one today!

Google Doc Add-On

Using the  Highlight Tool Add- On  in Google Docs There are many wonderful add-ons available to be used within the Google Suite. One that is making a lot of news lately is called the  Highlight Tool . What this tool does is provide a way to highlight different text within a Google Doc using a variety of colors. But what makes it such an asset comes afterwards.... you can export the highlighted text into a separate document by either sequence or color. This may sound familiar as there are other add-ons that do the same but the difference here is  the Highlight Tool is FREE! To see how it works, watch this short 6 min. youtube video from Josh Harris:  https://youtu.be/tGRRCvbY3kw There are many ways this add-on can be incorporated into Language Arts, Social Studies/History, or anywhere else that requires research and using information. But that is not all,  Eric Curtis shows how youcan use this add-on for Math problems. Be sure to check out his...

FormLimiter for Google Forms

Image
FormLimiter  is a Google Forms add-on that works really well for Google Classroom purposes and does exactly what the name implies…..it helps limit the use of the form. FormLimiter can be used as a way to make sure only students in a certain class can complete a quiz using Google Forms by setting the time when it will no longer be available. (hint: create one quiz using Google Forms and make a copy for each class. Then use the add-on formLimiter to make the quiz only available during the class period).  You can also use formLimiter to cut off responses after a certain number has been received or after a certain period or due date. Carol LaRow has created a PDF handout to walk you through all of the steps on how to use formLimiter. You can access it here: https://goo.gl/jdDbpa To watch a how to video, click here:  https://youtu.be/X3rQyf1wc_4
